Creative ideas for toodlers
When looking for activities for a toodler
you can't really know if it will be a hit or not, we share some of those that we experienced as a success at home.
Then it’s time to eat! 🙂
It’s wonderful for a toodler to be allowed to experiment with food, but there is offcourse a difference in how we think they should treat it at mealtimes.
So that’s why it’s just so wonderful and educational to get it in their hands once in a while and really discover the things they see us using in everyday life. Toodlers are allowed to create and grow in the task themselves.
Edible paint
A total hit! Yep, it gets a gold star, she was busy, it was exciting and fun. I had seen that others had made edible paint, but with different recipes. When I saw that we had some creme fraiche in the fridge, I thought that cornstarch could probably help with the consistency a bit and yes, Jenna the explora, as we sometimes call her, had a great time!
Edible paint recipe
- Creme fraiche
- Cornstarch
- Food coloring
- As much Creme fraiche as you think you need to add food coloring and as much cornstarch until you think the consistency is nice and as much color as you think it should have 🙂
Colored rice
It’s a bit of a classic, it was first carefully studied quietly and then they had a great time, the rice itself is fun, with some kitchen utensils, maybe a sieve or different buckets or other fun things, it becomes a playfull time.
Recipe for colored rice
- Rice
- A bag, possibly with a zip lock or freezer bag
- Food Color
- Put the color in the bag and knead until the color is well distributed, pour it into a bowl or on a plate and let it dry a little so that the color does not rub off.
- Save the rice in the bag, for another time or other fun things you can use rice for 🙂
Modeling wax
Another classic that is a hit. Since it was recess, the older kids wanted to join the toodlers and that just makes it even better 🙂
Here is the recipe for Modelling wax recipe
Colored pasta
Colored pasta wasn’t a huge hit with our toodler Jenna, but Joseph, 4 years old had fun making a pasta necklace.
Recipe:
- Pasta
- Bag with zip lock or freezer bag if desired
- Vinegar
- Food coloring
- Mix 2-4 tablespoons of vinegar and coloring into the bag of pasta, depending on how much pasta you have. Then let them dry overnight on a piece of baking paper.
