Homeschool Routines
They are important at home!
Homeschool Routines and Habits:
Without them it would be chaos for us, countless questions, boredom, laziness, irritation, etc.
- Make a schedule that fits into your everyday life – our routines click here.
- It takes a few days to find the rhythm, many repetitions, but don’t give up. You are the leader of your own family buiness, if you don’t know what’s going to happen, how will your child know, don’t get mad.
- Your children are in school, but so are we adults, the noblest form of character building of patience, joy and love.
- I’m still in school, I wonder what grade, sometimes I’ve probably gone over and over and over the same class 🙂
- Listen and notice your guidelines and messages, are they friendly, understandable and clear?
- What is the tone in the house, do you like being there?
- Do you think mostly about your own needs and therefore get irritated by theirs?
- There are several ways to listen, the one where you are doing something and do not look at the child, but just answer. And the one where you stop and listen with your eyes fixed on the child. Notice what is needed, as it can make the rest of the day’s chores or activities a lot easier.
- Have you ever experienced being on a trip, maybe shopping and having your eyes fixed on all your shopping or things around you, while having to correct a little Mrs./Mr. My experience is that I can choose to say things a thousand times and hurry up a bit to get things done around me or I can stop completely, fix my eyes on Mr./Mrs. and take a few minutes in the calmest way I can find and explain, or give a consequence if necessary. It really makes a diffrent result.
- Habits prevent major questions from being asked or irritation from arising.
- We experience that they diligently use their ingenuity and play much better.
- Routines, organization give us adults, energy, overview and efficiency. I often ask my husband what plans he has for the weekend, it gives us an idea of how we can organize the things we each want to get done ourselves or together. Instead of the day just passing and we don’t feel like anyone’s needs are really met.
- Organize materials and creative things so that they are accessible or easy to get to.
- Have things ready, especially creative things, otherwise it can ruin a fun creative project.
- A habit we love at home is reading, especially before we go to bed, at 7:00 p.m. we put on pajamas and brush our teeth, the baby is put to bed, we read with the youngest. At about 8:30 p.m. they go to bed and the oldest continue reading or other things. Then there is a nice calm in the house, it is cozy and we learned and loved.
- Think about what you want your children to have as a good habit in life, it can be something simple like remembering to make your bed in the morning or brushing your teeth, there are many good habits you can instill in your children.
Write a list of good habits and how you can achieve them together.
Stick to the routine! Don’t give up! You will reap the blessings later.
