homeschool Materials

We buy a lot of  our books from the United States, we carefully pick out our book materials. It is a little harder to find great book materials in danish, since there is very little on the market. Therefore we also chose to homeschool with english curriculum.

 

One of the great things about homeschooling, is that we can choose our own curriculum. When the our kids got older, the visists to the library got fewer, simply because the variety of options where inappropiate. we couldent even let our kids walk around the library, because the covers on the books today, are almost like walking into a halloween party. Sorry but as Christians we have to be awake, and let Gods Spirit lead us in that area. God is all pro life, and so much death is portrayed around us as a fun and appealing thing.

 

WE LOVE BOOKS! and I think it is an important thing to invest your money in. We also buy them used, and now we have created a little library, growing every year.

 

We use Abeka  –  Christian American homeschool materials, really complete and everything is straight forward, you follow a grade level with a class online or just use their books, consisting of 170 lessons.

 

We used Abeka until 4th grade with the 2 oldest, but then we chose to try with just the books, and no video streaming, with the other kids, and it also has worked great. We like both ways.

It is possible to choose in Abeka which writing style you want the children to learn, cursive or regular script, but cursive is also shown in the lessons, so they will be able to learn to read that too.

 

It is a really complete material and you don’t have to prepare anything.

 

For the video streaming, every year you get new classmates to follow, the lessons are filmed in advance.

 

You can easily do the Abeka book materials without the video streaming. The books also have great explanations in them.

 

The material is made in such a way that you can easily do without it, we have tried it and took 4th grade without video streaming, and will continue without video streaming. However, I would recommend taking children’s class to 2nd grade on video streaming, you get a really good start with that, but again you can easily do it without also.

 

Unfortunately, in Denmark we dont get any help financially for homeschooling, you have to provide your own materials, etc. and if you choose books from the USA, the shipping and VAT can cost a lot, fortunately there is no customs duty on books.

 

Besides that, we buy Danish books on forlaget delta. on this page, you are able to look inside the books, which is so great, since a lot of danish materials are filled with trolls, witches, dragons, horror stories, halloween and so on. in a way that we do not see appropriate.
